Cataract Falls (Great Smoky Mountains National Park)

Cataract Falls is a rough 40 foot high waterfall.  You can reach it by starting at the Sugarlands Visitor Center within the Great Smoky Mountains State Park.  From there you take the Fighting Creek Nature Trail to the fall, which is just a simple less than a mile easy stroll.  This won’t be the most impressive fall in the area by any means, but it is easy to find since everyone coming through the park ends up at the visitor center, and it is next door to Gatlinburg, TN.

When I was there additional parts of the immediate area were closed off due to increased bear activity, and I don’t know if that was a one time thing, or frequent.  Such closings though may impact when the nature trail is available if frequent.  Cataract Falls isn’t too far down the road from from Laurel Falls if you’re looking for a hike with elevation gain.
