High Falls is located at High Falls Park, in Grove Oak Alabama, in DeKalb County. The address is 969 Co Rd 144, Grove Oak, AL. You’ll know you’re getting close when it feels like you’ve been driving down rural farm housing areas for awhile. This is essentially a local hang out spot with a 35 foot tall fall that depending on water flow in Town Creek can be up to 300 feet wide. You’ll arrive to find a parking area and a cute looking park office where you have to sign into a guestbook before entering. There’s merchandise and you can ask the staff questions about the place, which is always a good thing. I did exactly that then headed down the paved path (not worthy of being called a hike) to the water. There I found the falls which you get a fantastic side view from, a rock formation they call Arch Rock, and you can climb all over at your own risk. The place is setup as a picnic area and for basic splashing around, with some minor hiking apparently available if you cross a bridge over the river and explore more. I’d guess High Falls Park is most active in the heat of summer. I unfortunately stopped in during the Fall of 2022 to find the water was barely flowing, so my photo doesn’t show the full potential. I recommend visiting the AdventuringLight blog to see the pictures there since other people have had better luck with the photography.
