Marble Falls, Texas

Recently I was running around Texas hunting waterfalls, with limited knowledge of Texas, and several of my potential spots to visit were near Marble Falls, TX.  I’m guessing other waterfall fanatics can’t help but notice the name of the town.  Allow me to save you some time and tell you that you will NOT find a waterfall in Marble Falls.  The town’s history is where that name comes from, as there once was one, along Texas’s Colorado River.  However in 1951 a dam, formerly called Marble Falls Dam was built, which would later be renamed to Max Starcke Dam, and this formed a reservoir.  So the falls that once existed are now the depths of said reservoir and never to be seen again. That aside the town is really pretty, and a great point to be adventuring around because a lot of waterfall attractions are within reach of it, including Inks Lake State Park (Burnet, TX) and Pedernales Falls State Park (Johnson City, TX).  Or go for a simple hike at Balcones Canyonlands.
