On Econfina Creek you’ll find the Pitt & Sylvan Springs Recreation area, located at 6315 FL-20, Youngstown, FL 32466. Pitt Spring is a gorgeous high volume crystal clear spring that is an attraction as a swimming hole and most of the recreation area focuses on building a supporting park around it. The spring has stairs going into it, and the water exits out into Econfina Creek. The recreation area also has a tube launch which allows you to drop into Econfina Creek from around the nearest bend and drift downstream for about 10 minutes to arrive back at the spring. There’s a nature trail as well that takes you to nearby Sylvan Spring, which really just dumps you at a viewing platform and not much else.
As a local let me be the first to tell you that parking can be challenging sometimes, as the primary parking area within the recreation area (right next to the spring) only holds a few cars. But recently an expanded parking area has been built just outside the front gate along highway 20. If you have to use the expanded area you’ll spend a couple extra minutes trekking from car to spring, but it isn’t a big deal really.
Other uses I’ve had for this place besides taking a dip in the spring and tubing are to fish, and using it as an exit point for short kayak trips from another spring just up the creek. Here are some photos so you know what you’re getting in to.
