Rosamond Johnson Beach – Gulf Islands National Seashore

Rosamond Johnson Beach – Gulf Islands National Seashore

Rosamond Johnson Beach in the Perdido Key area of the Gulf Islands National Seashore is an awesomely long stretch of nothing but sand dunes and exactly one road that leads in an out of the area, and terminates less than halfway down the peninsula zone.  I went there hoping I was going to see  Fort McRee or the remains of it, but what I found was a hugely long and stretched beach, full of pretty sand and sea oats going on for miles.  People just go there, find one of the more obvious pull overs on the side of the road and drag their stuff down to the beach to relax.  This sort of beach is a spectacle to behold because there’s just nothing to detract from it, for many miles.  You can feel like you’re alone with the Gulf of Mexico (aside from other people doing what you’re doing.)  Pack in and pack out anything you think you need for a beach day because you won’t find much aside from nature here.

View the park service website to learn more here.  It’ll cost you to get in and also fyi, no pets on the beach!
