Twin Falls in South Carolina is located along Reedy Cove Creek. It is on the land of a private nature preserve and open to the public. There are two different trailheads to get to it. One is an “Upper Twin Falls Trail” that gives you a longer high apparently but does NOT take you to the base of the falls for proper viewing. I chose the other option which was the normal Twin Falls Trail that you can find on Google Maps. It’s probably no more than a quarter mile long and a simple walk to the base of the falls and a viewing platform. I would not dare call it a hike. I found it easy enough to skip the platform and wander around the base of the falls, because that’s how I like to enjoy these things.
The name “Twin Falls” is far too common amongst waterfalls, but this one earns it. It was a time of high water flow when I was there and there were the two obvious falls flowing side by side. The one on the right then split into two falls again. Very appropriately named. I felt a little bad for the people that own property around this waterfall on the way in, which consist of a few houses that probably see several dozen visitors coming down their neighborhood each day or worse. But on the flip side the private preserve status here means that someone keeps this land around Twin Falls purposely so that people cannot build houses and lock it away. I guess that’s the two sides of things – visitors intrude in a neighborhood, but the neighborhood doesn’t get to hide away the awesome chunk of nature. It balances in the end as far as I’m concerned. Whatever the case this tall waterfall is worth seeing.
