Twin Falls is a 15 foot fall about 0.9 miles along the Gee Creek Trail. The Gee Creek Trail is the Cherokee National Forest Trail #191, which takes you into the Gee Creek Wilderness area. To reiterate, the waterfall is called Twin Falls. The trail is called the Gee Creek Trail. There is no “Gee Creek Falls”, and it took me a little bit to sort that out which is why I’m passing it on. And why did it take me a bit to sort out? Because I was working with a bunch of random information online before arriving and even got a complimentary printout from nearby Hiawassee / Ocoee State Park that labeled it as the “Gee Creek Falls Hike” without every mentioning “Twin Falls.” So the fall, is Twin Falls. Moving on!
To find the Gee Creek Trail you need to drive along US-411 N from about where it intersects the Hiawassee River for just a little bit, Turn right onto Gee Creek Rd which is very close, you’ll cross some railroad tracks, and then drive straight back into the forest for several minutes until the road dead ends. That’s when you’ll find the somewhat beaten up 191 trail sign, plus the handy map of the Gee Creek Trail and nearby area included here.
The hike is great, you basically head out for almost a mile, find a sign for the Gee Creek Wilderness area of the Cherokee National Forest, get to see all sorts of scenery, a little bit of elevation change happens, and then you arrive at Twin Falls. It seems fairly obvious why it bears that name.
