Odom Creek Falls is one of my favorite lesser waterfalls in Georgia. Not only are waterfalls few and far between in the southern part of the state, but this one is a super cool sideways canyon style waterfall that doesn’t require a hike to find, but does require you to be clever enough to find. When I went looking for this one I’d seen references to it online, and that led me to Odom Creek Park, which consisted of traveling down a county road near the Alabama/Georgia border and adjacent to the Chattahoochee River. It is just a few miles north of the more famous Coheelee Creek Covered Bridge (which also has a little waterfall).
Once I arrived at the park via Odom Creek Rd I found little more than a boat launch into the Chattahoochee. But Odom Creek dumps into the river here, and as any good waterfall hunter knows, you just have to find your way upstream to find a waterfall, if one exists. However, if you were to walk upstream from where it dumps into the river you’d probably take a lot of time and it could be a big hassle. Instead you backtrack about halfway back out of the park (between the river and where the park’s sign is) and start looking for signs of a social trail going into the jungle like foliage there. This wasn’t easy when I did it because it was late fall, leaves covered the ground, and this is far enough south that there were plenty of lush plants still obscuring view. But with a sharp eye, and listening closely, you’ll be able to navigate only a few hundred feet off the road and over to the creek and find Odom Creek Falls.
This thing is just beautiful with a sideways crashing water flow that I walked into and intentionally soaked myself. It is like walking into a 20 foot long shower, with ferns dangling, water flowing, just overall goodness. My photos never do things justice, as you can see here. To find this easily just use Google Maps and search for “Odom Creek GA” to get to the park. Bring a bathing suit, as I wish I had.
