Tarkiln Bayou Preserve State Park is a nice little stop by sort of place that has the option for a short hike that leads you to a boardwalk, or a multiple mile hike along the Perdido Bay Trail. I saw numerous pitch plants growing wild here and the scenery was nice. Some of the “hiking” is done on cement walkways, some on hard packed sand, and some on boardwalk. As the name implies a lot of this park fixates on Tarkiln Bayou.
Entry to this park just involves driving into a little lot and finding an iron ranger device that wants a few dollars. The park itself is located very close to Perdido Key and the Florida/Alabama state line. Address 2401 Bauer Rd, Pensacola, FL 32506. If you’ve come this far I highly recommend visiting the not too distant yet over the border Bamahenge.
